UPGRADE PROGRAMME – UDECTE
Introduction
Following the phasing out of ALL Teachers certificate courses (ECDE and P1); the MOE has introduced an UPGRADE PROGRAMME from ECDE certificate to DECTE, targeting many teachers who are currently in service. The upgrade programme is designed to enable the candidates to take all the professional courses where the principles of CBC are embedded.
Admission Requirements
KNEC ECDE Certificate
Duration of training
Five (5) school terms: Four (4) terms for course work and one (1) term for practicum. The Diploma in Early Childhood Teacher Education (DECTE) shall be graded as stipulated by KNEC
Mode of Study
- Blended mode with some face to face sessions during weekends and School holidays
- School-Based (Distance Learning) Sessions

Subjects EXEMPTED from the upgrade program include:
- Kenya Sign Language
- Indigenous language
- Foreign Languages (German, French, Arabic, and Mandarin (Chinese)
